چکیده

The intensity of light scattered from nine rabbit corneas was measured as a function of scattering angle and polarization of the incident light beam. The stroma was found to be largely responsible for scattering in the backward direction, while the epithelium scattered more strongly in the forward direction. The effect of an epithelial edema was to increase the scattering in the forward direction considerably.

The Effect of Lyophilization on Light Transmission of Amniotic Membrane: A Comparison with Rabbit Cornea

Background & Aims: Amniotic membrane persists for a long time after ocular transplantation (as corneal substitute) and can affect light transmission (transparency). The aim of this study was to evaluate the transparency of amniotic membrane after freeze-drying (lyophilization) and to compare the results with transparency of rabbit cornea. Methods: Transparency of rabbits’ corneas and fresh and ...

Forward scattering properties of corneal haze.

PURPOSE Corneal haze is a well-known pathology associated with decreased corneal transparency and increased ocular scattering. Clinically, haze is typically estimated as the amount of backscattered light observed in a slit lamp examination while the small angle forward scattering cannot be directly observed. It was the purpose of this study to demonstrate a single-pass technique to objectively ...

Essential ions for maintenance of the corneal epithelial surface.

It is generally believed that tears are required to furnish only oxygen to the corneal epithelium. However, as tears are a very complicated solution, it is likely that other factors are essential to the cells of the corneal surface. The amount of light scattered from the epithelial surface of the excised rabbit cornea was examined with the in vitro specular microscope while the epithelium was b...

Analytic expressions for in-field scattered light distributions

Light that is scattered from lenses and mirrors in an optical system produces a halo of stray light around bright objects within the field of view. The angular distribution of scattered light from any one component is usually described by the Harvey model. This paper presents analytic expressions for the scattered irradiance at a focal plane from optical components that scatter light in accorda...

Light-scattering methods for antibiotic sensitivity tests.

The total intensity of light scattered in the angular range 30 degrees-130 degrees by a suspension of bacteria can be used as the basis of a method of antibiotic sensitivity testing. A procedure is given in which the bacteria are incubated in the presence of antibiotic, as a test, and in its absence, as a control, for 60 minutes. An incubation time of 90 minutes gives slightly more reliable res...
